Here are a few of my favourite tracks from some of the recordings i've made. To hear them click on the little white triangular play buttons on the CD players.
Devil May Care
Calypso's Seaward Prospect
'English Elements (LIVE)' is the 2nd album from Curious Paradise. This Metheny-esque 'British pastoral fusion group' featured Pete Oxley (guitars & guitar synth) Mark Lockheart (saxes and bass clarinet) Steve Hamilton (piano & keyboards) Steve Watts (acoustic & electric bass) and myself (drums & percussion). 'Marshlan March' has a snare march over back beat groove that I used to love playing.
This is Curious Paradise's 1st album. The original line up featured Pete Oxley (guitars & guitar synth) Mark Lockheart (saxes & bass clarinet) Richard Fairhurst (piano & keyboards) Raph Mizraki (acoustic & electric bass) and myself (drums & percussion). 'Nocturnal Navigation' is a fast latin with some great bass playing by Raff and Marks sax solo really sings.
'Step Inside Love' is Saskia Bruin's 2nd album. This atmospheric late night bossa album features Saskia Bruin (vocals) Chris Ingham (piano) Colin Watling (sax) Andy Watson & Phil Brooke (guitar) Andy Brown (bass) and myself (drums). 'The Look Of Love' is a cool bossa with some smoky vocals from Saskia and wonderfully understated playing buy the guys.
The Look Of Love
This is Riprap's 1st album. This jazz meets beat poetry outfit features Kevin Flanagan (saxes and spoken word) Dave Gordon (piano) Andy Brown (acoustic & electric bass) and myself (drums & percussion). I loved playing in this group as we went to some pretty strange and wonderful places sometimes. This title track captures just a little of our live musical naughtiness.
'Pavane' by Paul HIggs is a beautiful and atmospheric jazz / classical crossover album. Featuring Paul Higgs (trumpet & piano) Andy Watson (guitar) Helen Yousaf (cello & viola) Jerome Davies (bass) myself (drums & percussion) plus some other great musicians on other tracks. 'Shadows And Desire' has a Miles Davis 'Tutu' kind of feel and some great playing, writing and not to mention expert production by Paul.
Shadows And Desire
'Now' is Curious Paradise's 3rd and most recent album. This line up features Pete Oxley (guitars and guitar synth) Julian Nicholas (saxes and bass clarinet) Phil Peskett (piano & keyboards) Oli Hayhurst (acoustic & electric bass) and myself (drums & percussion). 'The Peak Of Time' is a 12/8 latin with typically epic writing from Pete.
The Peak Of Time
'Jutta's Party Band' (pronounced 'Youta') features Christian Garrick (acoustic & electric violin) Pete Oxley (guitars) Dave Gordon (piano & keyboards) Ollie Hayhurst (acoustic & electric bass) and myself (drums & percussion). This band is great fun, for example this track 'The Gruffalo' makes me think of how Billy Cobham's 'Spectrum' album would have sounded if the Goons had been on the session!
'Snow Blue Light' is the Riprap Quartet's 2nd and most recent album. With Kevin Flanagan (saxes) Dave Gordon (piano) Andy Brown (bass) and myself (drums & percussion). This instrumental album features the group 'sans' poetry with just the quartet stretching out. 'Old Year' was originally a dark ballad of Kev's, but it got transformed one day when Andy came up with this killer bass line!
'Zanzibar' is the 1st album from the Flanagan Ingham quartet. Featuring Kevin Flanagan (sax) Chris Ingham (piano & vocals) Andy Brown (bass) and myself (drums). Guesting on this track 'Po Town' is Adrian Utley of Portishead on guitar (who also mixed the album). God, we all look and sound so young!
